London - Shopping
Shopping is one of the main reasons people flock to London all year round. It is one of the centres of fashion, style and music of the world. A wide variety of shops are allover London, from high priced exclusive clothing and goods, to some amazing deals.
Oxford and regent streets
This is the main area in which to find High Street stores. All the main ones are here from Marks and Spencer, Debenhams,John Lewis, Hamley’s Toy Shop, Boots, W.H. Smith, Bhs.C&A, and many more specialty shops. Piccadilly or Oxford Circus Tubes.
Charing cross road
Lots of book stores, rare and speciality, antique editions and more. Tottenham Court Road tube
Carnaby street:
This street was enormously popular in the sixties for fashion, but still has some shops worth investigating. Mostly rock shops with t-shirts and accessories, but Shelley’s shoes is one of the best shops in London for shoes. Oxford Circus Tube.
Tottenham court road:
Stereo and electrical shops and home design stores….good bargains to be found here. Tottenham Court Road
or Goodge Street tubes.
Covent Garden and Neal Street
Covent Garden used to be the flower market for London. Now it’s full of market stalls, and small shops and is a lovely place to wander around for an hour or three. At weekends and on summer days there are often street entertainers all around the place and you can watch anything from unicycling to fire eating as you relax.
Neal street is just around the corner from Covent Garden and here you can find everything from the latest surfing styles, to a wide range of homeopathic and herbal remedies. It’s a real mixed bag, but is a good place to get some serious shopping done.
Best tube stations: Covent Garden, Leicester Square
Camden and Camden Market
Catering to bohemian tastes, Camden has all manner of shops selling ethnic items. The markets run daily, but for me a visit to Camden really has to be on a Sunday afternoon, when you can combine shopping with people watching. You can buy anything from hand made jewellery to fresh fruit smoothies.
Best tube stations: Camden town
Hatton Garden
The place for jewellery. With a whole street full of jewellers, you’re guaranteed to find something you like. Whether you can afford it or not, that’s a whole different story.
